Find out how to book a stay at Barracks Cottage

Booking A Stay:

Bookings are welcome for a minimum 7 nights (Saturday – Saturday).

We’re sorry we are unable to offer shorter breaks and only offer the option of booking for a week/fortnight etc.
At Christmas and Hogmanay, we may alter the arrival/leave date to a weekday to accommodate seasonal celebrations!

Added changeover needs have influenced the requests we list below which we trust will not prove too onerous for visitors under Covid-19 circumstances!

Firstly, by way of introduction, our new Cottage Keeper (post lockdown 2020) is Erica MacDonald. A very busy young woman who, from her extensive past experience in the field, will ensure changeover needs at BC to an exacting standard. (Erica also holds the certificate for having undertaken a specialist Covid-19 online cleaning course.) She is also very talented and highly creative as many of our returning visitors may already know, but for others please do take a peek at her new website and her previous Facebook page (which shows many of her past creations): https://ericas-workshop.com &  https://www.facebook.com/HighlandKiltCushions/ An array of absolute delights!

Scottish Government guidelines have underpinned all requirements & recommendations for self-catering protocols, laid out by the Association of Scotland’s Self Caterers, Visit Scotland and others. Having followed Covid-19 industry standards, we hold a ‘Good to Go’ certificate, in recognition that we have developed and maintain required protocols. We have been rigorous in our risk assessment, choosing to exceed many specifications (e.g. with the purchase of a particularly effective ‘fogger machine’ for disinfecting).

A laminated ticked off/signed cleaning checklist is left for forthcoming visitors to confirm actions undertaken pre-arrival. Requirements may start to change as various recommendations for health & safety in self-catering properties are relaxed.

Most loose books, maps and DVD’s (initially removed) have now been returned since re-opening in 2021 and kitchen items increased once more.

Without further ado, here’s the detail.

We’d be really grateful if visitors could please

  1. bring your own towels(one hand towel will be provided in the bathroom and also one in the kitchen, along with tea-towels).
  2. use the hand sanitiser gelprovided - each time on entering the cottage (wall opposite entrance door) and note that outside seating areas/gates etc., will not have been sanitised (exception being the key-safe, keys, external entrance door furniture)
  3. use only ‘occupied’ bedrooms (avoiding otherwise unnecessary entry) and keep BC well ventilated(where possible) during your stay.
  4. trundle the appropriate ‘wheelie bin’ to road end/opp school each Tues night, for Weds collection(details on back of entrance door + in kitchen) and return it when empty. (Antibacterial wipes can be found below the kitchen sink for wiping the bin handle on leaving/collection.) NB Please let us know if this isn’t possible so we can make an alternative arrangement.
  5. note updated entry and departure times: arr not before 3.30pm & dep by 10.15am.
  6. strip all used beds on departure(in line with Scot Gov guidelines and to protect our cottage keeper): the sheet, mattress protector, duvet cover and top pillow protector (NB not the waterproof pillow protectors) should be put into the BLUE laundry bags provided.
  7. pop duvets and pillows(which will be sanitised and rotated) into the GREY storage bags. From Sept 2021 rotation etc will cont but Cottage Keeper will cover this!
  8.   ensure any refuse for general waste and recycling has been removed to the bins outside before departure(Green bin - general / blue bin - recycling.) For bottles and glass, the bottle bank is on road beside Glenelg football pitch.
  9. for those with dogs, scoop up any garden dog poop and dispose of in general waste bin (there are ‘doggy bags’ or ‘nappy sacks’ in the cottage for this purpose and it’s really important as families without dogs and perhaps young children may be the next visitors!)
  10. leave windows open on departure(within reason if it’s blowing a ‘hoolie’ with lashing rain!)
  11. try and leave BC as found– including cooker, fridge etc., (…as there will be such a lot of additional cleaning and disinfecting for Erica to cover on her arrival).
  12. All cottage information files have been removed but there will be laminated copies of ‘Quick tips’ for cottage lighting, cooker and microwave / washer-dryer / log burning stove & dishwasher available at BC.

Finally, would it be possible for you to provide the contact details for those staying at Barracks Cottage (address, email and contact number)? This is for 'Test & Protect’ purposes?

Thank you so much for bearing with us and these additional needs.

Trust this is all ok and most importantly PLEASE do enjoy your BC stay and have a wonderful time!

Fiona & Ray.
